Why are HVAC systems crucial for your vessel and how to clean them?

Every vessel has an HVAC system, they are used for weather cooling or heating the vessel. In other words, the HVAC system manages the whole onboard climate. Of course, there is not one unique system because there are different types of vessels with different needs. However, it is extremely important to keep every one of those HVAC systems clean. 

As mentioned before, your HVAC system manages the climate, meaning, it controls what you breathe on your vessel. This system controls air circulation within the rooms inside the vessel. Therefore, air quality is extremely important in this case. 

Sadly, improperly maintained HVAC systems are the biggest cause of diseases on vessels. Onboard air recirculates from all the rooms and it mixes within the AC system. This means that with further usage if there is contaminated air in one room, it will spread to all spaces on the board. Therefore, it is crucial to clean the HVAC system timely and properly. 

We are going to share some first-hand tips on how to clean the HVAC system by yourself. However, for extra safety, it is recommended to call for professional help. 

First, clean the air filter by gently taking it off and removing dust. If the dust is heavily accumulated, rinse it with water and wait until it is dry before returning it. 

Second, clean the sea filter by pulling the filter out from the seacock and washing it down with water. Third, evaporator coils need to be checked out for proper function. For E.g. Increased energy consumption is an indicator that something might be off.

Although one can find many YouTube videos on how to clean HVAC systems by themselves, it is recommended to call the professionals because we notice things regular eyes cannot. We contribute this to our years of experience.
