The yacht market was one of the most profitable markets during the COVID-19 pandemic! Why is that?

It was expected that industries such as online communications, e-commerce, delivery services and similar boom during the pandemic. However, the superyacht industry also boomed during the pandemic. According to inews.co.uk it grew to 3 billion pounds a year. Annual global sales in 2021 were 80% higher.

According to brokers Fraser Yachts, purchases of luxury vessels longer than 24 meters were, on average, more than 122% up during the last 12 years.

A spokeswoman for Fraser Yachts said that it was not just the billionaires who buy enormously expensive vessels. During the last year, more than 40% of clients who bought or chartered Fraser yachts were yachting for the first time.

CEO of Italian yacht builder Ferretti, Alberto Galassi, explained how this pandemic taught us how fragile our life is. That is why people who can afford to buy or charter a yacht will not postpone it anymore.

Industry publication ‘The Superyacht Group’ stated that more than 200 new superyachts debuted on international waters between January and September 2021, up from 165 in 2019 – with 330 more on order.

According to Sue Grant from Berthon International, sales during the pandemic went in a much different direction than expected. As the pandemic approached, Berthon Group had to close their offices and work from home. Because of the situation, they expected a huge fall in sales. However, as summer 2020 approached, the marinas all over the world quickly filled up.

It was evident that people realized that yachting is the perfect escape from the lockdown. Yachting is healthy, it’s fun and it offers a perfect escape from the disease.

Grant stated how during the March Berthon Group had a dip in sales. However, by September, that curve was almost vertical! Owning your own secure area that could move, be fun to cruise with and which could take you to tremendous places was in.

‘In 2020 and during the normally quiet winter quarter we sold a number of yachts off-market and often yachts coming to the market have had buyers waiting to snap them up. Sometimes it has felt that we were a watery matchmaking agency.’ (Grant).

We from the Adriavent team also have to add how our marine air duct cleaning business expanded because of so many new vessels on the water. We are extremely happy to see this industry booming and we are doing our best to satisfy all your needs.

Also, we would like to remind you how important it is to clean your kitchen hood air duct, machinery air duct etc.
